Hi guys! Welcome back to another really inconsistent post on my extremely inconsistent blog, except this time I have a thread of amazing recommendations for you – that’s right, I want to talk about the audiobooks that I think everyone should pick up IMMEDIATELY.
For those of you who don’t know, audio books are actual books spoken out loud. Some have casts, some have cool music, but the best part is that you get to read books while you’re driving or working out (because I definitely do a lot of that HAHAH). On average, I listen to about thirty hours of worth of audio books in a month. In February, I listened to almost sixty hours worth, which is ridiculous.
So, let’s tuck in to the actual recommending part of this post.
First things first, Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel
The audio of this book is freaking amazing. The whole book is narrated with a full cast, and each cast member has the perfect voice for the characters they portray. I personally feel like Sleeping Giants makes the perfect audio book simply because the whole book is just a series of interviews. Basically, it follows out main protag name, who when she was younger literally fell into a giant hand. A giant fucking metal hand in the middle of the earth. And from there on out, she keeps finding herself drifting back to the mystery of the hand, and that’s where all the drama starts. I love this series so much, and I need Only Human like…. immediately.
Mythos by Stephen Fry
Unlike Sleeping Giants, Mythos is sort of a non-fiction novel. Fry basically retells the stories from Greek Mythology, and even though a lot the topics covered are all very well know, for example Kronos and the whole eating-your-kids-so-they-won’t-over-throw-you thing, he still makes it really interesting and almost humorous by adding his own twists and commentaries. Did I mention that Stephen Fry’s voice is the most beautiful thing to ever grace this planet? It’s so damn precious and perfect to help you fall asleep. So, if you like mythology, maybe you’ll like this!
Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
This cute contemporary is perfect for those long drives to nowhere and the days you don’t wear mascara. I loved this SO MUCH. Not only is the story so damn important – kills me with its cuteness – the narration and voice for Simon is so perfect. Please, please, pretty please consider reading this story, or listening to the five hour audio book before you check out the film, because it’s literally incredible. And then go watch the movie, because ah DUH.
Illuminae, Gemina and Obsidio by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
Similar to Sleeping Giants, the Illuminae files has a full cast of narrators and features interviews as well as video transcripts and instant messages. This novel is literally everything you could ask for in young adult sci fi series. And by literally everything I mean EVERYTHING. Loveable characters, loveable “evil” characters, plot twists, and SWOON WORTHY moments. So many swoons. If you haven’t heard of this series, jump into t completely blind YOU WON’T regret it. And if you do . . . I’m sorry ok.
And last but not least, Dodie Clark’s Secrets For The Mad
I love Dodie and her YouTube channel so much, and I’ve always felt like I could relate to her in some ways. So of course, when I realise she had a book coming out, I just had to pick it up. Her book is a memoir of sorts and discuss her past relationship which wasn’t positive at all, as well as her depression and even has just beautiful little things like recipes, songs and even a chapter or to narrated by her producers. I thought it was beautiful!
Hopefully you enjoyed this list of a few audiobooks I really enjoyed! I’ve tried to keep it mixed by adding Sci Fi, YA, nonfiction and a contemporary. Have you listened to these? If you think there’s any audiobooks that are a must listen, leave them in the comments down below!
Hope you have an amazing bookish weekend!
