Can you believe it’s almost August? No? Oh okay, me either. The last seven months of reading have been my best in what feels like years and I’m so proud of myself for reading almost 70 books since the beginning of the year.
2017 was the year of slumps for me, and I’m so glad I’ve only experience the one slump this year. So I thought I would go ahead and do the midyear freakout tag to kinda discuss my faves and baes – and also mention some of my disappointing reads too. Let’s get crackin’
Hmmmm, how can I pick the best book? I’ve read so MANY! If anything, I would probably have to go with I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman or The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, or even The Kissing Quotient by Helen Hoang. All three books were incredibly well written and I practically binge read them.
Pfft, do I even read sequels? I’m gonna have to actually think and use my brain GAH. I loved Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff (aka an Aussie legend) It was action packed and I just loved how easy the writing was to get into, plus the footnotes literally killed me. I love them!
I still haven’t picked up Spinning Silver by Naomi Novak, but I have got both the audio book and the paperback (which is damn gorgeous. I really enjoyed the writing Uprooted, so I have no doubts that I’ll enjoy her latest novel.
Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor! I was so ready to read this book in April, thinking it would be published a year after Strange . . . except it wasn’t *sad face* But I’m okay with waiting. Not much longer now until I hold that bad boy in my hands.
Did someone say The Miseducation of Cameron Post? No? Alright then. I thought this book was going to be just amazing, and that it would touch on some really great topics/themes. But it was just, ugh I was so uncomfortable that I just couldn’t love it. I almost DNF’d it on multiple occasions.
I can’t choose just one, so I’m going to go with the whole Lara Jean series by Jenny Han. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before was absolutely – I’m gonna say it – ADORKABLE. I loved all the characters and the dramas, it was just such a cute and fun read, and even touched on a whole range of serious topics. Plus Peter is just UNF. My dream man.
Rick Riordan, for sure! I’ve read his books in the past, but this year I finally committed and listened/read the entire PJ&O and Heroes of Olympus series and I JUST UUUUHHUUH. I loved the whole experience, they were funny, loveable and I couldn’t wait to read more. Magnus Chase is next on the list.
Definitely Peter Kavinsky from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. HEART EYES FOR DAYS! Peter is just UNF. If you’ve read the books, let’s fangirl over him together, please and thank you.
I loved Lira from To Kill a Kingdom. She’s so snarky and sarcastic and I just loved every bit of it. If I didn’t think she’d try to kill me, I wouldn’t mind being her friend!
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Without a doubt. Need I say more?
DO I EVEN READ HAPPY BOOKS? THE ANSWER IS NO.
I can’t get over the hardback edition of A Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. I love all the shiny bits and bobs and the detailing. PLUS, under the jacket is even more surprises. I’m so glad I was able to find it at Readings *heart eyes*
SO MANY, TOO MANY. I’ve set up all my standalones on a seperate shelf and I would love to read at least half of them by the end of the year, or else culling will be required!
